The Northern Circuit Route is renowned for its exceptional scenic beauty and diverse ecosystems. This longer route allows for optimal acclimatization and provides climbers with a comprehensive experience of Mount Kilimanjaro’s varying landscapes. Starting from the northern side, this trek is perfect for those looking to enjoy a less crowded path while maximizing their chances of reaching the summit.
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Upon arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Use this day to relax and prepare for your upcoming adventure. Enjoy a welcome dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 2: Moshi to Londorossi Gate, Trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, travel to Londorossi Gate for registration. Begin your trek from the gate through lush rainforests to Mti Mkubwa Camp. Enjoy a packed lunch along the way. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp in the afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Depart Mti Mkubwa Camp and hike to Shira 1 Camp. The trail takes you through moorland and offers stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s landscape. Reach Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon, where you’ll have dinner and spend the night.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Continue your trek from Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp. Enjoy a scenic hike with panoramic views and arrive at Shira 2 Camp for dinner and overnight. This day provides an excellent opportunity to acclimatize to the altitude.
Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower, then to Barranco Camp
From Shira 2 Camp, hike to Lava Tower, a notable landmark on the route. Afterward, descend to Barranco Camp, which provides stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Arrive at Barranco Camp in the afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Tackle the famous Barranco Wall as you ascend from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp. The climb is challenging but rewarding, offering spectacular views. Settle into Karanga Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Depart Karanga Camp and head to Barafu Camp. This camp serves as the base for the summit attempt. Enjoy a packed lunch and prepare for the final ascent. Dinner and overnight at Barafu Camp.
Day 8: Barafu Camp to Summit, then Descend to Mweka Camp
Begin your summit attempt early in the morning. After reaching the summit and enjoying the breathtaking views, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest. Arrive at Mweka Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, Departure
Complete your trek from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. At the gate, receive your summit certificate and celebrate your successful climb. Transfer back to Arusha for relaxation or proceed to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure.
