Above the city of Arusha

Welcome to Mount Meru

Rising above Arusha at about 4,566 metres, Mount Meru offers spectacular volcanic scenery and a quieter trek than its famous neighbour, Kilimanjaro, inside Arusha National Park.

The climb begins among wildlife with an armed ranger, then rises to a breathtaking crater rim. It is also ideal acclimatisation before Kilimanjaro.

What makes it extraordinary

Three reasons to climb Mount Meru

  1. Tanzania's second-highest peak

Socialist Peak rewards you with vast views across the plains and toward Kilimanjaro on clear days.

  2. A wildlife-rich mountain

Giraffes, buffaloes, monkeys and many birds may be seen on the forested lower slopes.

  3. A quieter alternative

Fewer trekkers, dramatic crater views and perfect preparation for Africa’s highest summit.

The mountain experience

The trail climbs from lush montane forest through heath and moorland to steep volcanic cliffs. In places the summit ridge narrows, with the vast crater and its inner walls far below.

The final push to Socialist Peak is demanding. We handle park coordination, mountain support and guidance so you can focus on every step.
